★ Reading Round Up #4 ★

17 September 2019

Happy Tuesday everyone! How is everyone? Before I get into this post, I just wanted to say that I am stopping my usual post schedule. Life is just getting in the way and I would rather upload good posts when I can than rush and not be happy with them. I hope you all understand. ♥

I've had a busy week at work and a pretty busy weekend full of organizing my room, rehearsals and shows. I'm definitely going to be spending tonight relaxing! It's 100% needed. Today I have a brand new Reading Round Up post for you all and I hope you enjoy it. I read two books last month but one was pretty big so I'm pretty happy with myself, especially because it's been a pretty busy month too.

WHAT I READ IN AUGUST

'I Heart Hollywood' - Lindsey Kelk ♥♥♥.5/5
Angela Clark can't believe her luck! She's an English girl living in New York with a dream job at hip magazine The Look and a sexy new boyfriend. Her latest assignment takes her to Hollywood to interview hot actor and fellow Brit James Jacob. Thrown in at the deep end she heads west with best friend Jenny dreaming of Rodeo Drive and Malibu beach. Soon Angela discovers that celebrity life in Hollywood is not all glamour, gloss and sunshine. Despite his lady-killer reputation, the only person who seems genuine is James. Then paparazzi snaps them in a uncompromising posistion and suddently Angela is thrust into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons!

After finishing 'I Heart New York' I just needed to pick up the second book as I enjoyed it so much and I was fully invested into Angela's life. I again, really enjoyed this book. Maybe not as much as the first one but it was still a fun read. I definitely felt like Angela was making her already awkward situations worse and she kept putting herself in silly situations and making decisions that were of course going to seem dodgy. On top of that, Jen was fairly irritating. I thought that the way she acted wasn't the best and she didn't come across as the best of friends. Especially when she was somewhat encouraging Angela to cheat on her boyfriend. Just didn't sit well with me. Other than that however, I did find it funny and there were definitely some funny moments. Also,  reading about NY in the snow has made me want to visit NY in the winter so bad. I also now really want to visit LA too as Angela and Jen spent most of the book in LA, Hollywood. I'm definitely going to pick the third book up soon as again I really do feel invested in Angela's life.
'The Last Magician' - Lisa Maxwell ♥♥♥♥♥/5
In mordern-day New York, magic is all but extinct. The remaining few who have an affinity for magic - the Mageus - live in the shadows, hiding who they are. Any Mageus who enters Manhatten becomes trapped by the brink, a dark energy barrier that confines them the island. Crossing it means losing their power - and often their lives. Esta is a talented theif, and she's been raised to steal magical artifacs from the sinisiter Order that created the Brink. With her collecting these artifacts before the Order even realises she's there. And all of Esta's training has been for one final job: travelling back to 1920 to steal an ancient book containing the secrets of the Order - and the brink - before the Magician can destroy it and doom the Mageus to hopeless future. But Old New York is a dangerous world ruled by ruthless hangs and secret societies, a world where the very air crackles ith magic. Nothing is as it seems, including the Magician himself. And for Esta to save her furture, she may have to betray everyone in the past.

Okay. So... I think I have found my favourite book of 2019. Yep, I said it. This book was just phenomenal. I love it. I love the characters. I love the world. I love this book! Seriously though, this book really surprised me. I don't normally read historical fiction as I find them quite slow but I could not put this book down and when I finished it, it left a hole in my heart. Some people may describe this as a slow read however, Lisa wrote it so well that it keeps you invested and you appreciate the slow build up throughout the story. This book is definitely character driven and I loved all of them. I honestly don't have a bad thing to say about them. Obviously, Esta and Harte were by far my favourite two in the whole story and let me just say I 100% appreciated the slow burn romance, my favourite kind! To be honest, this book has truly left me speechless but just trust me when I say, READ THIS BOOK!

WHAT I WANT TO READ IN SEPTEMBER
I don't expect to read all of these books in September as it is a bust month for me as it is the month of the show I'm in! However, I would like to get to these books this month.
'Throne of Glass' by Sarah J Maas
I started this book at the end of August. This is a reread for me and I really want to try and get further in this series than I did last time as all I have heard is amazing reviews! So far I am enjoying it so that's good signs!

'I Heart Paris' by Lindsey Kelk
Like I said, I am fully invested in Angela's story/life so I had to put this on my TBR. I hope I do get to this book this month!

'The Whisper Man' by Alex North
I only heard about this book last month and as soon as I heard the synopsis I just knew I needed to read it. I do love good thriller/murder mystery, especially in the cooler months! So I'm looking forward to picking this book up!

'The Devil's Thief' by Lisa Maxwell
This is the second book to 'The Last Magician' and I really want to get to this book due to loving the first one SO much! I need more of this story in my life!
There you have my latest month reading round up! I hope you enjoyed this post. I now can't wait to get back to reading! Let me know in the comments if you have read any of the books I have mentioned or if these are books you want to get to!
