★ Movie Madness #1 ★

18 August 2019

I love watching films and TV series so I thought it would be fun to start 'Movie Madness' over here on my blog, where I'm going to share with you what films/TV series I have recently watched and my views on them! I have reviewed a few films before but I thought it would be more fun doing these types of round up posts - like I do when I have finished a couple of books. I hope you enjoy this layout and I have categorised whether I saw the film/TV series in the cinema, online or on TV!
Toy Story 4
When a new toy called "Forky" joins Woody and the gang, a road trip alongside old and new friends reveals how big the world can be for a toy.

I feel like when it comes to this film, there is definitely a split between the people who liked it and who didn't like it. I unfortunately fall into the 'didn't like it category'. When I say I didn't like it, there were aspects that I enjoyed! I loved seeing the old characters again - especially Jessie and Buzz as they are my favourites! - and I also loved the humor in it! The animation was also brilliant, you can definitely see how far Pixar have come with their animation technology.

Unfortunately, I just wasn't a fan of the story... it felt like it should have been called 'Woody's Story' and not 'Toy Story'. I'll be honest, Woody isn't even my favourite character so I got pretty bored pretty quickly. I also found it horrendously predictable and I know it's a kids film but still... it was so predictable! I did enjoy meeting the new characters but again, I just didn't see the point of them? and that includes Forky... I would have much rather seen more from our old characters, such as Buzz. I feel like I have ranted too much about this film... I love the Toy Story films, it's just a shame that this one didn't hit the mark for me and I generally believe they should have left it at 3 as the send off was far better.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
Five years after the events of Mamma Mia! (2008), Sophie prepares for the grand reopening of the Hotel Bella Donna as she learns more about her mother's past.

When this film came out in the cinema back in summer 2018, I never got round to seeing it! Which I was gutted about because I love 'Mamma Mia!' So cheesy and full of great tunes to sing a long too. When I saw that 'Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again' was going to be on, I just knew I had to watch it. I sat down with my sister, with a bag a popcorn and fully immersed myself into the film. When I first started watching it I was surprised to see that Meryl Streep wasn't going to be in it! I honestly had no idea so was left pretty shocked but I was very pleased with how Lily James played young Donna. You could really see that she looked at how Meryl played Donna and pulled that into her acting.

I loved the music they put into this film too as I was worried they what songs they would include seeing as so many of the iconic ABBA songs are used in the original film but I was pleasantly surprised. I found the story line really interesting and it was fun to see all the oldies, young! and see how their story line played out! I did enjoy this film, not as much as the original but I think for a sequel it did fairly well! It's made me want to see the musical now!

Stranger Things: S3
Summer brings new jobs and budding romance. But the mood shifts when  Dustin's radio picks up a Russian broadcast, and Will senses something is wrong.

I don't know how I can put into words how much I love Stranger Things. I have been a fan ever since it was this small little series that no one knew about a few years ago! I just fell in love with it as soon as I started it. This season is no different. I may even argue that this season is the best yet! I am a big 80s fan - constantly questioning why I wasn't born in the 80s - and so I adored the neon lights, the music and the fashion that was in this season! I just loved it!

However, when going into the season, I was worried where they were going to take it but I was so thrilled by the end of the season as the story line was great and it kept me hooked throughout the 8 episodes. I love the dynamic of the different friendship groups throughout the season. It was lovely to see Max and El grow closer and I LOVED seeing Dustin and Steve back together and see them band together with Robin and Erica! Honestly, I just loved all of the characters in this season! They all brought something to the table and they all made me feel many different emotions throughout the season - I cried non-stop for the last 20 minutes of the last episode. I don't know what I am going to do whilst waiting for the final season! It's definitely going to be a big one!

How I wish I didn't see the trailer for this film before watching it! To be honest, the only real reason I wanted to watch this film was because Brenda Song - past Disney Channel star - was starring in it. I didn't have massive high hopes going into the film as I find Netflix films can really be hit or miss but I just fancied watching a thriller film one evening so popped this on. However, like I said the trailer really did ruin this for me. It was so incredibly predictable and hardly thrilling at all as you just knew what was going to happen!

I can't even say the acting saved this film for me because it was really pants. Some of the characters decisions were just plain stupid and I just couldn't get on board with the story. It's a real shame because this film idea had such promise but it was ruined with how predictable it was. Brenda was fairly strong in her acting up until the end *spoiler alert* when her character is getting pinned to the bed and Russel ties her foot to the bed railing she just comes across a little pathetic? and she doesn't seem to make much effort to escape him... yet only 5 minutes later she's able to put all her energy towards pulling her (healing ankle) out of the restraint... I'm sorry if that sounds mean, but I just didn't think the acting was very convincing. This film left me feeling flat and not thrilled at all. I personally wouldn't recommend watching this if you looking for a thrilling thriller.

I did not mean to end my first Movie Madness post on such a damper of a review! My apologies! But I guess you can't help with how you feel. Anyway, I did watch Stranger Things and damn, I loved that, so it wasn't all negative. I really hope you enjoyed this set up! I'm definitely going to try and upload this post more regularly when I have recently watched any new films or series! I'm desperate to go and see the new Quetin Tarantino film, so I am sure I'll write a review on that soon!

Have you seen any of the films/TV series I mentioned in this post? or are they films/TV series you plan to watch soon? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I actually loved Toy Story 4, and I also hated it a tad. I think I'm okay with the huge focus on Woody as he was the original in the sense that he was Andy's favourite toy. Throughout the course of these films, I feel as though we've seen him grow and change. What I "hated" about it was how realistic it was! I didn't expect him to stay behind with Bo, I'd have liked it much better if she had gone with him & the rest of the gang. But such is life, and there were real themes of redemption, forgiveness, and grace, which you don't always get from Hollywood nowadays!! Sorry for the paragraph lol :')

  2. I haven't seen the new Toy Story and I'm not in a particular rush to tbh! Even more so after your review. I've heard nothing but rubbish about Secret Obsession too haha. I loved Stranger Things season 3!
