Wrap-Up and TBR #1

So in the month of December I managed to just about finish 2 books. I'm quite proud of that number considering how busy I have been over the Christmas period. I hope to increase my reading intake over the year as I just have so many books I want to indulge myself in. I also have 3 books in mind that I want to finish this month as well. Let's start of with my December Wrap Up.

Recently I've been getting really in to Cassandra Clare's book. I have read the first 3 books of her first series The Mortal Instruments and even though you can continue on with the series and finish it before starting another one of her series, Cassy Clare has also recommended to read the books in publication order as they do all link together, so that is what I decided to do. Which is why I have no read the first book to her Infernal Devices trilogy and oh wow, I enjoyed it immensely. It was so easy to fly in to and it was also so clever how this book linked in so many little places with the first 3 books of The Mortal Instruments. I loved reading names that I recognised from the first 3 books of TMI as well, it was just so very clever.

I also really enjoyed the new characters and that it was set in Victorian London; they mentioned places that I recognised or even been too which made it fun to imagine them in an older era. I enjoyed that Cassandra Clare didn't focus solely on demons in this book but more on vampires and a new creation you'll discover when reading this book. I actually found this book easier to get into than the first 3 books in TMI series. People have also said this too in their reviews, however the last 3 books in TMI series are suppose to be faster in pace than the original 3. I now can't wait to get started with the following books in the two series (TMI & TID). If you haven't read any of Cassandra Clare's books, I definitely recommend them, as they are so fun to read.

Okay so if you follow me on Goodreads you'll know that technically I didn't finish this in December, however I did read most of it in December and so close to the new year that I thought I would just include my review in my December Wrap Up. Unfortunately this book did not sit well with me, I felt quite disappointed at the end of the book and I just don't think book had much power in it. I didn't really get anything out of it. Don't get me wrong there were a few funny moments but other than that I just didn't enjoy this read at all, this may be one of the reasons why it took me longer than usual to finish it.

Another factor to why I didn't really enjoy this book is that nothing really had happened at the 100 page mark and when I got to the 200 page mark I still kept thinking 'so is anything really going to happen?'. The ending also baffled me, even though I somewhat understood the ending, the ending still fell flat and left me a little confused with the whole reading experience. I do hope I don't upset any John Green fans and I don't doubt he doesn't write good books just unfortunately the two books I have read so far just haven't been that great for myself, please don't hate me on this unpopular opinion!

So they were the 2 books I managed to finish this past month, now here are the books I would like to read this month!

01. 'Inkheart' by Cornelia Funke - I have already started this book and so far it's already grabbed me. It's a little intimidating in size however I'm so intrigued with the story I honestly don't think the size will matter. I honestly can't wait to dive deeper into the story.

02. 'City of Fallen Angels' by Cassandra Clare - You will start to see a reoccurring theme over the next couple of months when it comes to Cassandra Clare's books. I'm addicted to her series at the moment and so motivated to finish them. If you're familiar with Cassandra Clare's work you'll know that she has 3 series published, including 2 short story bind ups, and my plan is to try and get caught up as much as I can this year, as like I said, I'm addicted to her work currently.

03. 'Best Man' by Matt Dunn - The lovely Abbey kindly sent me this book in exchange of a book from me and I'm really keen in to starting this book when I can. It's a book I wouldn't normally pick up but who knows, I may end up loving this book.

I do hope you enjoyed my little round up on what I've read in the past month and what I hope to read this month. Let me know down below if you have read any of the books I have mentioned, I would love to hear your views too!

By all means, I would also love it if you would add me on Goodreads, if you have the app anyway, as I love to see what everyone is reading and I also love to share my thoughts throughout my experience of reading a book. I will add you back straight away if you decide to add me thats for sure (link).
